African traditional music focuses on continental Africa's music genres, styles, performances and dances of the indigenes as practiced in selected African regions. The module is utilised as the prism through which Africa's replete musical heritage is given attention and also exposed to learners. It asserts its voice against the backdrop that, African traditional music has been maligned for a while especially by Western scholars who have failed to understand its source and significance as art. Thus this course is guided and informed by the concept of art-for-life's sake. Furthermore, it intends to make students grapple with the position of African traditional music in the context of globalization and internationalism.
