NRM 125 -Plant Biology Synopsis
This course covers plant processes and cycles that are necessary for plant growth, development and dry matter production. A deep understanding of plant physiological principles is necessary for students to understand plant responses to the environment factors such as temperature, wind, mineral nutrients, water availability and soil and atmospheric pollutants.
Course Objectives
The Course aims to achieve the following goals:
(i) To provide students with strong foundational background on what Plant Biology is, its relevance, and how it is interconnected with other disciplines.
(ii) To offer students solid understanding of the morphology and histology of seeds, emerging plants, seedlings and mature plants.
(iii) To highlight vital principles underlying growth and development of plants, as well as some important physiological processes such as photosynthesis, dormancy, photoperiodism, etc.,
(iv) To foster the development of critical thinking amongst students as it relates to the methods of scientific inquiry.
