The course covers the chemistry of terpenes, terpenoids, steroids, lipids and alkaloids, flavonoids, prostaglandins and amino acids. Emphasis will be on their everyday applications. The course also deals with total syntheses of selected natural products from animal, plant, marine, bacterial and fungal sources. Important reactions include acetate, mevalonic acid and shikimic acid pathways.
